Two? In one shell?

For the first time in my life, when I cracked an egg open,
there it was-

A double-yolk!
I have never even seen one before...

Have any of you?
Is this a common experience?
Chicken, farmer, bloggy friends
any experience with this?

After I started thinking about that double yolk
and really looking at it,
I didn't want to eat it any more.
All I could think about was that it was going to be twins.

Would you have eaten it?

O.K.-
I know that all of you are going to yes,
Yes, you would have eaten it,
for goodness sake!

But I just couldn't help it,
I couldn't get past it.

(In case you are curious, I have eaten eggs since,
it was just that moment...)

Thanks for sharing this picture! I would have thought the same exact thing... twins?? I'm not a fan of eggs. I still remember as a young girl (maybe 4 years old) stuffing my eggs into a napkin so that it would appear that I did in fact try to eat them. I still feel so bad about throwing them away haha. I do use eggs when baking though :) Had I seen the twins I would not have ate them either. This was definitely very neat to see :)

Yes, I've seen this before. And I've used the eggs....You know, waste not want not and all that. It is pretty neat to find an egg like that though.

Yes and yes. :)

I'm a farmer's daughter . . . that's what animals and eggs are for. (Just don't give PETA my address, okay?)

Yes indeed, I've had this before and yes, I've eaten them. A farm girl at heart, "use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!" Hugs!

Oh yes I have seen it, infact I had a large egg once and it had 3 yokes in it, just amazed me, it is very exciting how this sort of thing happens, I am thinking that it was gonna be twins too.
We did eat ours, and we ate our first two eggs today for breakfast.
so good compared to those store eggs that are so watery now.
Hugs my friend, and have fun with you chickens too, I just love mine.

How neat! I have chickens of my own, and so far, no double yolks in their eggs. :o) Now that the thought of it being twins has crossed my mind, I would be hard pressed to pass it on to someone else. :o) Otherwise, it would have made a great quiche! :o)
Have a great day!
Sincerely ~ Tricia

Wow! I have never seen a double yolk in my lifetime yet. Pretty amazing!

Would I eat it??... If I was about to whip them up to scramble them I think I would for sure eat it. If I was frying it (like sunny-side up), I am not so sure IF I could eat it then! :)

Hey...I have had that happen before. I was making cookies and just broke the egg into the dough. What a surprise. The cookies were really good!

Have a great time at the bag class. Can't wait to see it!

Once in a while I come across one of these. My husband calls it a two-headed chicken. Yuck!

Ohhhh! I'm not sure if I could have eaten it either... unless I didn't have any other eggs left. :)

I don't think I've ever had twins before. :)

Rare for sure...I am not an egg eater except for boiled on occasion. I once saw a partial chick in an egg.. that was enough for me. Do chickens have twins?
